Elizabeth Smart kidnapper Brian David Mitchell was sentenced to life imprisonment.
Smart, 23, living in Salt Lake City Wednesday with his mother, Lois Sister Mary Katherine, and her father Ed Smart. Mitchell had waived his right to be present in the courtroom. There is no parole in the federal system, but Mitchell will be imprisoned outside Utah, because there is no federal prison in the state.
Elizabeth went to court and Mitchell, saying: "I have much to say. I know exactly what he did. I know you know what you did wrong. You did it knowingly. I also want you to know that I have a wonderful life now, no matter what you do and do not touch me. You took nine months of my life that can never be returned, but in this life or the next, which is responsible for these actions, and is expected to be ready in time.
